The Vermont Children's Theater provides the children in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont with a practical introduction to theatre, developing theatrical technique, self-confidence and personal responsibility regardless of their ability to pay. The VCT is committed to the pleasure, enjoyment, sense of self worth and accomplishment of children collectively and as individuals. Family members are invited and encouraged to take an active role with their children, as volunteers, in the many support activities required for the success of the program.
VCT is the outgrowth of a program that began in Peacham approximately 20 years ago with the presentation of a variety shows by a group of local children under the direction of Nancy Hartswick in the dining room of Peacham Church . In 1990, a large barn on the property of the Wildflower Inn was made available to the VCT. The barn was converted into a 200-seat theater, and the first production in the new theater was Barnum in the summer of 1991. This summer’s production of Barnum is part of the celebration of 20 years in the barn.
